The Gomoa West District Assembly (GWDA) held its periodic staff durbar on Thursday, 26th March 2026, at the Assembly’s Conference Hall to deliberate on issues aimed at improving the institution’s performance and growth. In attendance is the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Alhaji Mohammed Kassm, the District Coordinating Director (DCD), Eq. Marian Dankwaa Mensah, the Hon. Preisding Member, Hon. Donkor, the BNI officer of the District, Mr Morgan, departmental heads and all staff of the assembly.
The durbar commenced with a presentation by the BNI Officer, Mr Morgan, who emphasised the importance of security consciousness among staff. He noted that security should be taken seriously at all times and encouraged staff to remain vigilant by being aware of their surroundings, front, back, left, and right.
The Presiding Member, Hon. Stephen Donkoh, also addressed the gathering on security and administration. He expressed concern about the lack of proper security measures at the Assembly’s main gate, indicating that the absence of a gate key posed a risk. He further advised Heads of Department to collaborate closely with Assembly Members when organising programmes in their respective communities, as they possess better knowledge of their localities.
Hon. Donkoh also highlighted the issue of low revenue mobilisation and urged all staff to contribute actively towards improving the Assembly’s internally generated funds. He further cautioned staff against undermining cleaning staff and encouraged mutual respect among all workers. He further motivated staff to remain dedicated and work diligently towards the Assembly’s development.
The District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Alhaji Mohammed Kassim, expressed appreciation to staff for their contributions to the Assembly’s progress. He indicated that since assuming office, the Assembly had not recorded any major negative incidents, except for the loss of a security officer.
The DCE encouraged staff to work conscientiously and uphold professionalism even beyond their years of service. He announced his intention to personally sponsor an award scheme in December to recognise the best-performing staff of the Assembly.
He further urged workers to reflect on their productivity and justify the salaries they receive. Hon. Kassim assured staff of management’s support in addressing challenges encountered in the line of duty and emphasised the need for unity, describing staff as one family.
Addressing workplace discipline, the DCE raised concerns about absenteeism, lateness, and early closure from work. He tasked Heads of Department to monitor attendance in their respective units. He also advised staff to dress appropriately to enhance their confidence and public image.
On revenue generation, the DCE reiterated the need for improved revenue mobilisation to enable the Assembly to meet its financial obligations, including the payment of allowances such as MEMO, transfer grants, and transport and travelling (T&T). He therefore encouraged staff to educate and motivate the public to fulfil their civic responsibility by paying their taxes.
The durbar concluded with the mother of the house, the coordinating director, Eq. Marian Mensah encourages staff to be punctual and diligent in their daily activities. She further assured staff of her commitment to be impartial in her judgements and that her office is always available for any assistance.
