The First Ordinary Meeting of the Second Session of the Ninth Assembly of the Gomoa West District Assembly was held on Friday, 19th June 2026, at the District Assembly Hall, Apam. The meeting was addressed by the District Chief Executive, Hon. Mohammed Kassim, who highlighted the Assembly’s development activities and the progress made across various sectors of the district. The meeting was held in line with the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), which requires District Assemblies to meet regularly to discuss development issues.
In his address, the DCE stated that the 2026–2029 Medium-Term Development Plan had been submitted to the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) for certification. He emphasized the Assembly’s commitment to improving agriculture, education, health, social services, sanitation, revenue mobilization, security, and infrastructure development.
The agriculture sector recorded significant achievements under the “Feed Ghana” Programme. The Department of Agriculture reached 9,394 farmers through farm and home visits, while hundreds of farmers benefited from poultry technology, nutrition education, and livestock demonstrations. The Nkoko Nketsenketse programme also distributed 10,000 birds under its pilot initiative to support farmers.
The Social Welfare and Community Development Department continued interventions aimed at improving the welfare of vulnerable groups. Sensitization programmes were organized on child rights, child trafficking, child labour, parental care, and teenage pregnancy. The department also supported Persons with Disabilities and collaborated with NHIA to renew and register health insurance cards for 5,973 residents. Under the LEAP programme, 1,022 households benefited from the 99th payment cycle.
The Gender Unit undertook community engagements on sexual and gender-based violence, drug abuse among adolescents, and gender equality. NADMO also carried out disaster prevention activities, including monitoring illegal mining activities, inspecting expired goods, and educating residents on flood and fire safety measures.
In education, the Assembly continued to support quality learning. Apam Senior High School emerged the winner of the 69th Independence Day Anniversary Debate and represented the zone at the regional level. Schools also benefited from guidance programmes, hygiene education, food safety training, and oral health activities.
The District Health Directorate continued to strengthen healthcare delivery through health review meetings, maternal and child health programmes, staff training, and community health screening exercises. Environmental health activities also improved, with inspections, food-handler screening, cleanup exercises, sanitation campaigns, and market inspections conducted across the district.
The security situation in the district remained stable, with the Police Command maintaining peace and order. The Fire Service vehicle, which had been out of operation due to mechanical challenges, was repaired and returned to service. The Immigration Service also continued monitoring hotels and guesthouses to ensure compliance.
On revenue mobilization, the Assembly recorded total revenue of GH¢3,347,522.20 as of April, while expenditure stood at GH¢6,107,144.05. The Assembly continued public education and stakeholder engagements to improve revenue compliance among residents.
The Assembly also reported progress on several infrastructure projects, including classroom blocks, teachers’ accommodation, CHPS compounds, boreholes, and sanitation facilities across communities. Completed projects and ongoing works reflect the Assembly’s efforts to improve education, healthcare, water supply, and general living conditions within the district.
The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of the Assembly’s commitment to promoting development and improving service delivery through collaboration with stakeholders and residents of the Gomoa West District.
