The Gomoa West District celebrated Ghana’s 69th Independence Day on 6th March 2026 at Apam, bringing together Member of Parliament, Hon. Richard Gyan Mensah, the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Alhaji Kassim Muhammed, the District Coordinating Director, Esq Marian Dankwaa Mensah, traditional leaders, religious leaders, heads of departments, teachers, students, and residents of the community. The national theme, “Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope,” guided the celebrations.
The District Director of Education highlighted that building prosperity goes beyond financial wealth to include access to quality education, healthcare, safe communities, and overall social wellbeing, while restoring hope involves renewing confidence in the future, particularly in challenging times. He emphasized that nation-building is a collective responsibility, urging teachers to work with integrity, inspire students, and foster inclusiveness. Pupils and students were encouraged to believe in themselves, dream big, and strive to achieve their goals.
The DCE, Hon. Kassim Muhammed, called on citizens to embrace unity, hard work, and civic responsibility. He paid tribute to Ghana’s founding fathers, led by Dr Kwame Nkrumah, for their vision of independence, self-determination, and national development. Highlighting the district’s achievements, he noted improvements in education through school infrastructure and teacher support, strengthened agriculture and fisheries for local economic growth, and enhanced infrastructure and sanitation through initiatives such as the “Clean Gomoa” campaign.
He emphasized youth empowerment through skills training and entrepreneurship programs, encouraging them to avoid social vices and seize available opportunities. The DCE commended traditional and religious leaders for promoting peace, noting that development can only thrive in a stable environment. He also called on citizens to demonstrate patriotism by paying taxes, protecting the environment, and supporting one another.
In conclusion, both the District Director of Education and the DCE urged residents to renew their commitment to building a prosperous and hopeful Gomoa West, stressing that through collective effort, the district and nation can continue to progress and achieve sustainable development.
