On 12th May 2026, the Gomoa West District Assembly organized a comprehensive clean-up exercise to promote hygiene, sanitation, and a healthy environment across the district. The activity brought together the District Chief Executive, Hon. Mohammed Kassim, and the District Coordinating Director, Esq. Marian Dankwaa Mensah, the Ghana National Fire Service officers within the district, the Ghana police officers within the district, the Assembly staff, traditional leaders, community members, school authorities, and volunteers, all working collaboratively to enhance the cleanliness of public spaces.
The District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Alhaji Kassim Muhammed, addressed the residents of the area, emphasising that maintaining a clean environment is every resident’s responsibility. He encouraged households, market traders, and local institutions to actively participate in sanitation efforts and adopt proper waste management practices within the district.
Hon. Mohammed Kassim noted that this initiative aligns with President Mahama’s vision, who has designated the first Tuesday of every month as a national day for environmental cleanliness. While the government plans to engage Zoomlion for regular sanitation services, the Assembly took proactive steps to implement the clean-up independently until those arrangements are in place.
Also, the DCE commended traditional leaders, Assembly staff, the security officers and community members for their dedication to the exercise, stressing that regular clean-up activities strengthen community unity, civic responsibility, and sustainable development. He further highlighted that a clean Gomoa West not only improves public health but also enhances the district’s appearance, making it more attractive to residents and visitors. He concluded by urging all residents to continue working together to maintain high sanitation standards, reminding them that a healthy and clean environment is the foundation for a prosperous and vibrant Gomoa West.
The District Coordinating Director, Esq. Marian Mensah thanked all members for showing up for the exercise and reiterated the reason for the exercise:” to take back our environment and leave it better than we found it. She said a clean community isn’t built by one person or one department. It’s built when all of us decide that litter on the street and choked gutters are not acceptable. So, as we work today, let’s do it with pride. Pick up, sweep, clear the drains, and look out for each other. Keep safety in mind, wear your gloves, and work as a team. Remember, this exercise ends today, but keeping our environment clean is a daily job. Don’t wait for the next clean-up to act. Dispose of waste properly, stop others from littering, and hold yourselves to a higher standard. Let’s make this place a standard that others will want to copy. Thank you. Let’s get to work.”
