The agriculture department of the Gomoa West District Assembly, on 13th May 2025, held a training exercise to equip the Ankamu Farmers Association with knowledge and skills to utilise neem aqueous as a natural pest control method, as opposed to chemical pest control methods, which are more expensive and harmful to their health.
The training exercise was held in Gomoa Abura, with 20 farmers from various communities and villages in the district in attendance. Participants were introduced to the insecticidal properties of neem and its environmental advantages, as well as the preparation of a neem aqueous solution from neem seeds or leaves. Effective application methods for various crops and pests were also discussed, with an emphasis on integrated pest management (IPM) and safe handling practices.
At the end of the training, participants demonstrated improved understanding of neem aqueous and its uses, gained hands-on experience in preparing and applying neem solutions, and farmers expressed enthusiasm for incorporating neem aqueous into their pest management strategies.
The training successfully empowered farmers with knowledge and skills to harness neem aqueous extract for sustainable pest management. The agricultural extension officer pledges support and monitoring for a successful adoption and impact.
