On 07 August 2025, the District Security Committee (DISEC) held a meeting with the sub-chiefs and elders of Apam at the District Chief Executive’s office. The meeting was convened to discuss the recent demise of the Chief of Apam and other pressing issues affecting the community.!
During the engagement, the sub-chiefs and elders officially informed DISEC of their decision to postpone this year’s celebration of the Akwabo festival. This decision was taken to allow the people of Apam to observe proper funeral rites and customs in honour of the late chief. DISEC acknowledged and respected their decision as a sign of deep cultural and traditional commitment.
Further, the elders raised concerns regarding the unregulated activities of salt mining in the area.
They appealed to the Assembly to take firm steps to regulate the operations of the miners, to prevent and protect the environment and the community’s interests.
In response, the District Coordinating Director (DCD) informed the gathering that the Assembly had invited those engaged in salt mining for caution and further discussions. However, they are yet to honour the invitation and appear before the Assembly.
The District Chief Executive (DCE), chairman of Disec, thanked the sub-chiefs and elders sincerely for honouring the invitation and for their continued cooperation with the District Assembly. He commended them for the maturity, wisdom, and respect for tradition they have shown in handling the passing of the chief and encouraged them to maintain unity and peace within the traditional council and the larger Apam community.
He further assured them of the Assembly’s full support in ensuring that all customary protocols are observed peacefully and that the necessary regulatory measures regarding salt mining will be enforced in due time.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both parties agreeing to work hand-in-hand for the development, peace, and stability of Apam.
